"Respondents endured a nightmare situation...."
I first installed Nightmare on Ninth Street Halloween 2003, part of a series of Holiday Decorations to respond to abuse by the DC government. This past spring the DC Office of Administrative Hearings ruled against the government in a proposed permit revocation proceeding initiated in 2003 (yes, it took almost 4 years). I was stunned to read in the Final Order that the OAH judge also considered our debacle a "nightmare" and thought it would be appropriate to do a Nightmare Redux this Halloween.
Portions of this installation date from the Halloween 2003 installation and were exhibited in Wrestling Angels, a show that addresses women and conflict, curated by Marion Callis at Akus Gallery at Eastern Connecticut State University in March 2007. Other aspects are new, including the audio component and the clipboards that hold photos I took when the city carried out a search of our home in March 2003.
